Hello all! Jody here with two awesome things to share with you!! First off, today I’m releasing 10, yes TEN, more new sequin mixes just time for Christmas and New Years scrapping! I hope you love them as much as I do. I was inspired by so many things this time, including some new scrapbook collections, New Years and the Sparklers!
and this teal beauty too!
The second thing I’m sharing today is my Missy-inspired layout! I started with American Crafts card stock and the beautiful new Shimmerz Paint Blue Grass. That color is absolutely stunning & is my new favorite. After prepping my background with gesso, I used the packaging technique, my paint brush and some extra water to get the look I wanted. I added some splatters of Pink Caviar Shimmerz also! SO PRETTY!! I also used one of the new SMS cut files which you can find HERE. It was designed by Sheryl.
After playing around with the placement and mixed media background, I decided to add a bunch of sequins in the middle of the page but was looking for a way to contain them. I found some Canvas Corp Tissue Stock paper (Hobby Lobby) and used that to create a large pocket. This isn’t really a shaker pocket, as I have most of the sequins adhered down with Aleene’s Clear Tacky Glue. I just came across this stuff at Hobby Lobby and love it! I used the Wild & Free sequins along with the light wood grain sequins from the new Chocolate Cookies mix!
I hope you LOVE all the sequins and enjoyed my Missy Whidden inspired layout! As a huge thank you for following SMS and being such fabulous customers, please enjoy 25% off your entire new order with code MERRY25. This new code is valid today through December 26th, 2017.
Hello my awesome creative friends!!! I’m super excited to be on the blog today sharing more free SMS Cut Files & this layout! I started this WEEKS ago and finally finished it last weekend while I was supposed to be looking in the basement freezer for dinner🤣!!! I have a feeling you can relate… someone?? Anyway, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do sometimes, right?! I just love how it turned out!
To start this layout, I prepped the Dear Lizzy raindrop paper with some clear gesso. I knew I wasn’t going to use a lot of Shimmerz on this layout but I still wanted the ability to blend the colors and use the packaging technique. If I wouldn’t have used the clear gesso the spray would’ve of soaked right into the pattern paper, not giving me any flexibility to move the color around. Just a little tip for ya! The Shimmerz I used were Vibez Blue Jeans, Spritz Ruby & Coloringz Night Moves.
A while back I asked DT Sparkler Sheryl to design some cut files for the shop & I absolutely adore what she created!!! The first one I cut on my Silhouette Cameo was this super cute umbrella one. Those adorable little umbrellas are perfect for backing with patterned papers, making sequin shakers or leaving as is. I decided to make little sequin shakers and back them with patterned papers! Here are some close ups pics!
I’ve used a lot of products from my stash to create this, along with some new goodies too! The background paper is from Dear Lizzy for American Crafts and the super cute flair are The Crafty Pockets!!
Now unlike DT Sparkler Mary, this girl doesn’t “hoard wood veneer like a banshee!” Really Mary lol! If you don’t have a clue what I’m talking about you’ll NEED to check out Mary’s video on the SMS YouTube!! Hilarious & a super awesome layout!! I digress… I used several little wood veneer geo tags from my stash along with some adorable little hearts. I also sprinkled a bunch of sequins from On Pointe!! Love this mix!!
Thanks so much for stopping by today!! Be sure to check out the Scrap Shop, as there are over 20 new sequin mixes PLUS a whole section of Last Chance Goodies!!
Happy November everyone! Jody here on the blog today and I could not be more excited, again, and to introduce a ton more new sequins!! This month I’m releasing 21 new sequin mixes, designed especially at the request of some of my Sparklers, you and inspired by so much going on in the beautiful paper crafting world. As always, all the sequin mixes are hand mixed by yours truly and are in very limited quantities!! Grab ‘em while you can!!
We have some extra special sequin mixes inspired by my oldest daughter Sari. She asked me a few months to go if I would make some Harry Potter themed mixes and I absolutely loved her idea. So this month you will see three mixes inspired by the iconic book series called I Solemnly Swear, Cunning One, and The Sorting Hat. My Gryffindor and Slytherin friends will certainly enjoy these mixes!
Also happening this month we will have guest designer Rachel Lowe on the blog starting next Tuesday, and on all the Tuesdays throughout the month. I’m so excited to have her as Tuesdays Talent and I know you’re going to absolutely love her projects. Huge thank you to Rachel for joining us this month!
To wrap up today’s post make sure you stop by the Scrap Shop and scoop up some of your favorite mixes! Also be sure to visit the mixed media shop, A Lil’ Shimmer Shop, and pick up lots of Simmerz products that are deeply discounted to make room for more new stuff coming soon!
Thanks so much for being here! Now go shop & be creative!!
Hello and welcome to this month’s Sparklers Design Team sequin release blog hop! Whew, that was kind of a mouth full! I’m extra excited this month because DT Sparkler Lisa Kingston had a beautiful vision, and that was to create some sequin mixes inspired by some of her favorite artwork! So naturally I said, “Go for it!” I must say, she’s done a fabulous job on these mixes, which are shown below my layout 🙂
Here’s my layout created with some of my favorite American Crafts cardstock, a stunning copper embossed floral paper from an American Crafts collection, Shimelle phrase thickers (hello and lovely),Shimmerz Quit Yer Winen’, and the fabulous new On Pointe sequin mix (only I picked out all the little metallic copper ones!!) I did a ton of fussy cutting for this, obviously. I cut out every flower from that stunning coppery embossed paper and it was SSSOOO worth it! I did some light mixed media work on the background, using the muted purplish Shimmerz Quite Yer Winen‘. I added some dark purplish tread in a few spots and called it good! I also used the sketch below by Stuck Sketches?! as my jumping point!! I love the diagonal design.
Below are the pieces of artwork which inspired Lisa to choose the sequin colors . All of this month’s sequins are above and the inspiration pairings are just below!
Now here’s you Sparklers Design Team line up for this hop!
Now off you go to check out the DT’s fabulous projects!! The blog hop is open through Saturday night and after that I’ll pick a random winner from the comments on the blogs. The winner will get all the new September sequins!!!
Thank so much for being here! Hop on over to Sara, who also has Raquel as a her guest!
And by the way, I heard my YouTube squad might have a playlist for ya!! You can that out here.
Good afternoon everyone, it’s Sarah here today!! As you know were scraplifting the amazing Jen Schow this week! I chose this layout of hers.
I started by choosing my photos. These are my boys a few years ago fishing with there papa. They had a blast and have loved it ever since! I wanted a lighter background then Jen had chosen, so I went through and found this cloud paper and then dipped into my Pretty Little Studio stash and grabbed Lets Go. I loved that the colors went well together and that there were nice pops of yellow.
I pulled out the paper with the diagonal strip and used it as my base for my pictures and journaling cards. I matted my pictures and journaling cards onAmerican Crafts white cardstock. I did this 1st and made sure I had my pics and cards where I wanted them, then matted them onto the diagonal patterned paper.
I added my journaling to the bottom right jounaling card after playing with my type writer. I know Jen had had journaling on bother her cards, but I just added mine to one. Along with a label sticker and a little punched out circle that said, you are awesome. I also added a flair button up in the center like she did too.
I moved up the right side of the pictures and added a tab, along with a few little labels.
Moving to the top of my layout to add a title like Jen had. I pulled out the last of my feltie clouds. I loved that they went perfect with the cloud paper. I know Jen used them too, But I really just love them! I pulled a white tag with a light blue grid and added it to the top, added a label and a word sticker into the center of that that says, this moment. I added my clouds across the top and started playing with my Ferris Wheel sequins. The sides and shades of blue in these sequins are just fantastic!! One of my favorite right now!! After playing with my pretties for a while, I finished off my layout by adding my title, Lip Rippin’. lol
This month has been a blast for me! I really enjoyed scraplifting all these amazing ladies!! All were so intimidating but oh so fun! I hope you enjoyed my scraplift of Jen!
Hello everyone!! This week we are scraplifting Shimelle and I’m here to share with you what layout of hers I chose to use and my scraplift of it.
Here’s the layout I created!
I pulled out a past scrapbook kit from The Fairytale club and decided to use it for this scraplift, I thought it went well with my photos that I had decided to use. Now thats the 1st thing I changed about this layout, I used 2 photos instead of one and I know Shimelle likes to scrap her photos in color, but I dont always like doing that. So I decided to use snapchat photos of me and my girls, using a filter that added cute little pink flowers to our heads.
I started with the background, I chose one of the papers that was just black and white and pulled out my watercolors and went to painting the flowers. I cut that down and added it to the bottom of the layout where she had the bold chevron paper. And instead of another patterned paper I pulled out some of the pretty purple washi tape I had got from the Spieglemomscraps shop and did three different lines of it to make the seperation and a bigger pop of color.
I added some layers behind my photos, I didnt add as many layers as Shimelle, I added some of mine in with different embellishments and fussy cut elements.
I moved to the lower right corner of the layout to start the cluster there and decided to use that cute Hi tag instead of journaling. There wasnt much to journal about here really, thats why I chose to use the tag. We have tons of snapchat pics and there just us messing around and having fun. I added in the heart, a documented sticker and a few other pieces and them moved back to the title.
I knew I wanted my title to be a bit longer like Shimelles is, so I pulled out one of my scripty font alphas and a large cork ampersands from the shop and added my title.
To finish everything off I pulled out my beautiful sequin packs, Ferris Wheel, Steal My Heart and Sparkle Power. I feel like these add everything the layout needs! The teals and blues from Ferris wheel are just beautiful along with the textures on them! And the little gold stars from Steal my heart are a nice pop of gold along with the pretty pink in white! All of them are so gorgeous!

Happy Ground Hogs’ Dag!! Jody here today. Although I don’t take much stock in a ground hog determining whether or not I continue to freeze my butt off, it’s still a cute yearly tradition here in the U.S!!
Today, I’m sharing a layout I literally put together in 20 minutes!! We all need layouts like these for busy, busy times! I shared a couple sneaks of this on the SMS Instagram a few weeks ago and today I’m excited to share it with you all. I started with a FREE cut file (found on the Free Cut Files page here) cut out on American Crafts white cardstock and paper from Pink Paislee/Paige Evans, Take Me Away. I chose the Flurries Background cut file I designed and simply layered it over my Pink Paislee paper. I added a Chantilly Lacy 8 inch doily, some Pretty Little Studio Hello Heather papers and my photo, then adhered that onto my background. I also added some craft foam under my photo to pop it up a little.
One other tidbit I’d like to share is my struggle to actually use cut files! Crazy right?! My scrap studio is no longer in the room, or even the same floor as my computer which causes a problem obviously. So, to solve this dilemma I have been cutting files while I’m doing other things at my computer like checking email, working on taxes (UGH help me now LOL), etc. It’s pretty easy to get my cut file set up cut, and then let it run while I’m working on other tasks. I just wanted to share that with you all since I’m sure I’m not the only one that faces challenges like this. So now, I have several different cut file background and others ready to go whenever I want to sneak away for 10 minutes to create in my space!!
I simply added my title, which are cardboard Thickers from American Crafts (maybe from Dear Lizzy or Amy Tan??) and Foam Thickers from the Pink Paislee Take Me Away collection. Finally I sprinkled some Amore sequins in a few areas. I called it good in 20 minutes you guys!!
Thanks so much for stopping by today!! I hope you are inspired to pre-cut some background cut files and have them ready to go for creating some super quick layouts!!

Hello everyone, Jody here today for a very special blog hop! The Sparklers and I are very excited to announce our product swap with the fabulous flair shop, Cuts2Luv!! We have been planning this for months and are super excited the day is finally here!! Caroline from Cuts2Luv is a total a sweetheart and her flair are wonderful, so be sure to check her shop out HERE. This is a long hop, so let’s get to it!
For today, I’m sharing a layout I created based off a sketch I designed and have included some brand newShimmerz products, a free cut file (found HERE), and some lovely flair from Cuts2Luv!
I used this sketch as my inspiration and this FREE SpiegelMom Scraps cut file to create all my snowflakes. You can find the cut file HERE and the sketch can be saved right from this post. After cutting the Flakey background for another project, I saved all those lovely flakes for more projects! I stuck pretty close to my sketch, which always makes my scrapping go way faster. I just turned the sketch on it’s side to mix it up a little bit. After all, I did just have an insane weekend LOL!!! I started with white American Crafts cardstock and used several of the die cut snowflakes to as masks, painting over them with In The Navy AcriTonez from Shimmerz Paintz. This technique is great when you want to create your own background and want specific colors! I then used some of those same die cut snowflakes on my layout and layered them with the Blustery Day Feltie Snowflakes. LOVE THESE!!
The new AcriTonez are amazing, self-priming paints. They go on with a chalky-like feel and dry completely matte, almost like chalkboard paint does. It’s the coolest!!I also completely painted over the “Today” in my title. It was black and the AcriTonez cover it beautifully.
After my background dried, which was super fast, I added some layers of Pink Paislee Moonstruck behind my photos to bring out the bright pink and navy. I added some contrast with a Corky Flake (die cut cork snowflakes) and love how they stand out!
One of my favorite things to do when scrapbooking is adding small details around my page. It keeps your eye moving around the layout and gives it so much texture and interest. Adding little details like Cut2Luv flair, SpiegelMom Scraps Sequins and splatters of Shimmerz sprays are my totally perfect finishing touches! The navy blue splatters you see are Mama Sings the Blues Coloringz. Caroline’s flair is fabulous!! Layering it, like I did below is so much fun! You’ll love the dimension and texture it adds to you layout! Do check her out!! Also pictured below are Tiny Heart Cork Confetti and Chasing Azul sequins.
A few notes about my layout before you hop on to the Cuts2Luv blog. Caroline and I love to give away prizes, SO be sure to leave comments on all the designer’s blog participating in the hop. You have through Saturday, January 14th to leave comments and TWO winners will be announced on Monday January 16th in the Facebook event!
Feel free to use it and tag #smssketches in your social media!
I hope you enjoy what I’ve created for you today and enjoy the rest of the hop!
Thanks so much! Now you’re off to the Cuts2Luv blog. Here the entire blog hop line up in case you get lost along the way!

Alright friends, now I’d love to share a recent layout I created using small amounts of time spread over about a week. That’s how I create most of the time, between working full time, running SMS and managing my busy family! It works great for me to work on a layout for 10-15 minutes, then come back to in later. For this layout I used the free cut file from Creative Scrappers in December. I stretched the cut file across my layout to create these cool looking windows.
After I had the CS cut file cut out on my American Crafts cardstock, I used a glassine bag to create a stained glass effect. First, I cut open the glassine bag and placed some drops of glue on the inside where I wanted my snowflakes to be positioned. Now, I know my photos are not winter at all but the snowflakes are very subtle inside the glassine bag so I didn’t mind. The snowflakes are from the Flakey cut file, free on the Cut Files page here.
Next, I dumped a bunch of the Adore sequin mix in the glassine bag and sealed up the edges with glue. I used double sided tape to adhere the glassine bag window to the backside of my white cardstock and layered up some Bella Blvd papers from my stash. I also cut a new Silver Foil Doily and added it around my photos along with these beautiful puffy leaf swags and more Adore sequins. Here are some close ups!
I hope you enjoyed my layout today! I always love this technique with glassine bags and sequins AND a chance to get on the blog with my Sparklers! They know I’ve been busting my butt behind the scenes to get ready for my biggest product release to date! Get ready for lots of new sequin mixes and even more felt and cork die cuts!!
Over the next few days, I’ll be adding more items to the Clearance section of the Scrap Shop, including WRMK Page protectors and adhesives! Watch for those deals and grab some of the wood veneers that are left too!
