What About Wednesday: 8 1/2 by 11 Layout

Aloha My Scrappy Friends!! How is everyone’s spring going? I am ready for the warmer weather and enjoying the days it’s not raining. I have been spending a lot more time outside with my puppy, Kona, trying to get her energy out.

With all the rain, she gets antsy and into things when she doesn’t have that playtime. She loves to play fetch and run after a ball. She doesn’t always give my the ball, but she is starting to get the hang of it.

Speaking of her stealing stuff, that is what my layout is about. Her love to steal things that don’t belong to her and make me try to get them. Sometimes I think she thinks it’s a game. Sometimes she thinks she needs to guard it, especially if it’s anything paper or food.

In the pictures Kona stole my son’s light saber and kept trying to hide under our fireplace. She still thinks she fits under it, but she doesn’t. I, of course, took out my camera out to take a picture. Instead of saving my son’s light saber.

Here is a look at my layout.

I decided today to make a 8 1/2x 11 layout. I am using Two 3×4 photos which will fit nicely on my layout. I love the balance of open space to photos space on my layout. For me, I like more open space on the layout than photos. This gives me room to play with embellishments on my layouts too.

I started off with some white card stock. This has become my go for starting a layout. The artist in me gets all giddy about a blank canvas and what it can become once I add things. I used a black and white pattern so any of the colors that I used on the rest of the layout would pop. I knew at some point I wanted to use some colorful sequins. I may be a little obsessed with the colorful sequins.

On one of the medium shipping tags I added strips of various scrap papers from my desk to cover the bottom half. This is where most of the color is located on my layout. I like ow it becomes the focal piece. I added a die-cut word on the strips and some “Hot Right Now” Sequins. Tied some blue baker’s twine and made a cute little swirl with the twine.

Everything looks cuter with a feltie heart and tiny attacher staples.

In addition to the patterned paper on the tag I also added a few strips of patterns throughout the layout. One at the top, one at the end of the black and white Simple Stories paper and then another strip near the bottom of the layout.

I added a die-cut on both the top an bottom strips and added some feltie hearts and “Hot Right Now” sequins. Keeping it simple in the clusters was my main goal. I didn’t want to over embellish and take away from the photos.

I added the title around the photos, on the corner. I also added a die-cut as part of my title on the photos, near the chipboard alphas from Pink Fresh Studio that I used. I don’t usually do my titles this way, but i wanted to do something a little different.

This was a really fun and cute layout that I made and I was really pleased how it turned out. I love that I can use my favorite photos to share and remember these moments that make up our lives. I really love when I can use cute products like sequins and feltie hearts!!

Thanks for joining me today!! I hope I see you around the Facebook group sharing the projects and layouts you are making using the SpiegelMom Scraps sequins and products.
