Twas the Night Before Christmas | Iris Fox

Hello friends, I’m back for week two of my November guest spot with a festive layout.  This one is all about the Holly Berries sequin mix and the Shimmerz Texturez in Gold Mine!

I started with black cardstock to make everything pop and because I was scrapping night photos.  I used a cut file of paint brush strokes as a stencil to apply the thick texture paste to the cardstock.  I then added the Holly Berries sequins on the top portion of each line.  Really love all that shimmer and glimmer that compliments the lights and decorations in my photos.

My title is a combination of white-on-black tile stickers and the fabulous acrylic “Christmas” from last year’s Felicity Jane holiday kit.  I wanted a big, bold title that could stand its ground on the bold texture paste and sequin-heavy background.  Because it is white instead of the golden hue, your eye ties it in with the cluster of photos.

I added some bits of twine, washi, and gold-on-black word strips from Ali Edwards to decorate the blank space between the shimmery lines for more textures and interest.  Because these words are gold, they become a part of the background and don’t compete with the title or journaling.

The thick paste and piled on sequins are reminiscent of frosting and sprinkles and were perfect for creating a bold background in a loose interpretation of the tiers of a Christmas tree.  I also sprinkled more of the sequins up and down on a diagonal and added a few wood stars that echo the stars in the sequin mix, but add even more dimension.

I often am sparing in my use of sequins because I don’t want to use them up, but there are always so many in the Spiegelmom Scraps packs, that happily I still have plenty to decorate more of my holiday projects!
