Sugar & Spice | Iris Fox

Hello! Iris here with my last project as a guest designer for November, and it features two lovely mixes, Vintage Christmas and Forever in Blue Jeans.

The two mixes reminded me of sprinkles, which led me to think about all the times my daughters and I have made cookies.  It’s coming up on the Holidays, so of course I have gingerbread cookie decorating on the brain.  They don’t have sprinkles, but they are sugary and spicy, and so are my girls!

I went with a Crate Paper woodgrain from the Kiss Kiss collection to compliment the browns of the gingerbread and the counter in my photos.  To help the sequins pop, I brushed on a light coat of white paint.  I used a stitch file (like a cut file, but instead of cutting it pokes holes) from the Silhouette store to create a mason jar at the top left.  I hand stitched it in white.

Then I went to town with the sequins, placing them in the jar as if it’s tipped over my photos, sprinkling down.  Also in the sprinkling I put part of my title, which is a play on the phrase “sugar and spice and everything nice, that’s what little girls are made of”.

Under my cluster of photos is the second half of the title.  More sequins gather there, and to tie everything together, I used a messy machine stitch. A small bit of dark grey cardstock at the two corners where the sequins are concentrated help reinforce the flow, and ground the layout.

I kept the background, stitching, and title all in neutral tones, letting the pastels and shimmer of the sequins shine.

My stint as guest designer has been everything nice!  Thank you Jodi for the opportunity to play with such wonderful sequins!

Everyone enjoy your Christmas Holidays!
